5 tips for feeling motivated.

I know it’s easy to let things slip as we slide into the last month of 2023…

But why?

There’s still time and space to get shit done and take action towards the goals we set at the start of the year. Make it fun, get creative, continue to create clarity and take action towards the direction of your goals.

Step 1: Close energy loops.

We almost need to take a step back before we move forward. This is your opportunity to resolve any unresolved tasks.

Get your shit in order so you can reduce stress, and create mental clarity and focus.

For example:

  • Clear your email inbox (an open energy loop is opening an email you know you need to get back to, and thinking about it over and over without closing the loop)

  • RSVP to events

  • Reply to friends/family messages

  • Make decisions you’ve been procrastinating on

  • Book the dentist appt etc

Hot tip: schedule in 30-60min a week to close loops.

Step 2: Plan.

Set a goal, make a plan, stick to it.

Don’t know where to start - ask yourself these 2 questions:

  1. What do I currently have that I want more of?

  2. What do I currently not have, that I want?

Step 3: Start before you’re ready.

Readiness and “feeling ready” is a myth.

“The perfect time” doesn’t exist.

So break down the action steps you need to take towards your goals, into tiny, bite sized pieces and commit to one each day.

Hot tip: read atomic habits by James Clear.

Step 4: reframe failure.

Our common fears are failure, judgment, rejection, and success.

Re failure - I learnt from my coach to remove the term ‘failure’ from my vocabulary all together. She says we either achieve our version of success or we learn something. The outcome is that we can’t fail and when we ‘can’t fail’, amazing things happen.

Take inspiration from the famous speech from Theodore Roosevelt on ‘the man in the arena’. Would you rather be the person that’s judging from the sidelines, never taking a step in the ring. Or do you want to be the person that’s courageous, who makes mistakes, learns, achieves and aims for something bigger than themselves.

I know who I’d prefer to be…

Step 5: be present.

Journal, meditate, be mindful, anchor into your senses, be present.

This is one of my biggest growth areas. It’s challenging. There are SO many distractions out there.

But I truly believe that presence is the key to a happy and fulfilling life.

There it is - 5 tips for creating motivation as we head into December.

Good luck, look after yourself and be kind.
