The energy of a new year: Don’t let it overwhelm you!
The start of a new year can stir up a myriad of emotions.
“Shit the Christmas break went too fast!”
“Shit I can’t wait to go to work and leave the kids at home!”
“Shit I have so much to do!!”
“Shit I can’t believe it’s 2024!”
I could go on… But I’m sure you get the point.
Every corner of social media is overflowing right now with advice, tips, goals, ‘new year new year me’ content, 2024 trends, 2024 predictions, etc etc. It can be bloody overwhelming! Especially for a serial scroller like me.
I actually switched off from socials over the break (which was great!) but now I feel like the impact of scrolling and content overload is having an impact even more so (!)
What I’m feeling is duality.
The concept of duality explains why we need the dark to have light and need the bad to have the good.
It explains having contradictory energies. When I first learnt about duality it changed my whole perspective.
And so right now, at the beginning of this year, 2024, I feel both overwhelmed and excited for what’s ahead.
And this is okay.
What I want to do (and what I want to inspire you to do) - is to harness the excitement energy.
Acknowledge the overwhelm, see it for what it is but harness the positive that can come out of the fresh opportunities a new year brings.
Here are some ways we can harness this energy and use it for good:
Set a goal setting date with yourself.
It doesn’t need to be right at the start of January. I would aim for Jan/Feb. No later than end of Feb. Take yourself for coffee, go to the beach, sit on the back lawn - and block out 30min. This is for clarity, flow, ideas, visualisation. A way for us to set the tone for how we want this year to look.
Challenge yourself to get out of your comfort zone.
Choose your thing for 2024 that is going to push the boundaries. For example, last year I launched a podcast. It pushed every single boundary of mine and I felt extremely uncomfortable. But it will now be a life highlight! I will forever remember 2023 as the year I launched a poddy. So what do you want to remember 2024 for?!
Remember those goals you set in step 1?
Now you are going to devise an action plan to ensure you actually achieve them. Writing them down isn’t enough.
You owe it to yourself to actually implement the action and the steps that are going to allow you to achieve them. The smaller the steps = the better.
