The mid-life career changer.
Something I’m seeing as I dive deeper into supporting individuals further along in their career… is a different type of pressure.
Almost a “time ticking” pressure.
Recently I’ve been working with clients who have been in the same industry for the bulk of their career (often decades). Over such a significant amount of time the individual has changed.
As a result of this change, the career that once served them in their 20s and 30s no longer does.
It’s unaligned, unfulfilling and doesn’t provide them with the sense of purpose it once did.
Their priorities have shifted.
There is a stronger desire for balance.
Time outside of work has become more important.
However, they still have a lot to give when it comes to their career.
They have skills and experience that would be an invaluable asset to their next employer.
The dream for them right now is to do work that is aligned to and fulfilling for the ‘evolved’ version of who they are / and are becoming.
But because they haven’t switched careers before and are reluctant to become a millennial ‘job hopper’, they are completely lost with where to start.
If you can relate to this ^ you are not alone. I am seeing this more and more.
If you want to start the process of changing careers, start with building clarity.
Create clarity on:
What you value
Your transferable skills
Your strengths
Then deepen this ^ through self-reflection, journaling and asking yourself the ‘big life’ questions.
You have so much to offer!
I know it feels daunting right now, but there is something bigger, better and brighter out there for you.
